Comment by James July 20, 2009 @ 2:31 pmI just found your book at Barnes & Noble tonight, and I feel so inspired. First of all, I NEVER knew that there was such a thing as Mail Art! I have been doing this thing called “Mail Art” since I was in grade school, but I just called it letter writing… I would tear pages out of magazines, make them into envelopes, write on place mats in restaraunts… etc… but I always wrote to people that I knew.
I have been heartbroken that people don’t write anymore. Truly heartbroken. I would send out stacks of letter for EVERY holiday (not just Christmas!) and would not get ANY returns. Finally, I gave up.
Then, tonight, I found your book! Your book, your book, your book! Thank you! The only thing even similar that I ever found was a book about anonymous postcards. Yes, I found the book very fascinating, but still, there would be no response… ugh! no response! That’s like yummy chocolate chip cookies with no milk! Part of the true love and joy of writing is getting a letter back! The entire time I am WRITING a letter, I am thinking “I wonder what they are going to say to this, or respond to that.”
It feels sacreligious to be emailing your right now about how happy I am that you wrote this book and introduced me to the fact that there are people out there that write letters back! THANK YOU! I am 40 years old and am embarassed to say that I never have heard of such a thing!
I am going to go now and write you a proper letter! I had to check out your website and when I saw that this book has only been out for a short amount of time, I feel truly blessed!
You have NO IDEA how greatful I am to you right now! Truly greatful and inspired!
Please be looking for a letter from me. I will write “Amy Celtic” on it so you know that it is me. But, I will tell you this… you are going to be astonished at the response to this book. It was like coming home for me, since this is part of me that I have been in touch with in YEARS! But your book had others peeking at it too in the Barnes and Noble Cafe!
The art of letter writing has went by the wayside, but YOU have written its REVIVAL! Let us all thank you and the Postal System! (Thank God we still have them, although I worry about losing that too!)
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Amy Celtic
